裏板には、細かく規則的でありながら力強い杢を持つ二枚板のメイプルが用いられています。その杢は側板やスクロールにも美しく現れ、楽器全体に統一感を与えています。
ニスは透明感のある黄金色からアンバー・オレンジ系の色調で、メイプルの杢を鮮明に浮かび上がらせています。光の当たり方によって木材の表情が大きく変化する、非常に印象的な外観です。
表板には比較的均整の取れたスプルースが用いられ、細身で伸びやかなf字孔、丁寧に収められたパーフリング、明瞭なエッジワークとコーナーなど、細部まで整った製作を見ることができます。
スクロールにも裏板・側板と呼応する杢のあるメイプルが用いられ、黄金色のニスとともに本作の明るく端正な印象を形成しています。
Piero Badalassiの弟子であることを明記したラベルを持つ、1985年Forte dei Marmi製のGiuseppe Barberi。
トスカーナの製作背景と、選ばれた木材の美しさをあわせて楽しむことのできる一本です。

Giuseppe Barberi was an Italian violin maker who worked in Forte dei Marmi, Tuscany.
The original label of this violin reads:
“Giuseppe Barberi / allievo di Piero Badalassi / Fece in Forte dei Marmi nell’Anno 1985”
identifying Barberi as a pupil of Piero Badalassi and recording the instrument as having been made in Forte dei Marmi in 1985.
With this direct reference to his training under Badalassi, the violin provides an interesting example of violin making in Tuscany during the 1980s.
The two-piece maple back is particularly striking, displaying a fine, regular and strongly defined figure. Similarly figured maple is found in the ribs and scroll, creating a visually coherent character throughout the instrument.
A transparent golden-amber to orange varnish enhances the natural figure of the maple and gives the violin a warm, luminous appearance that changes noticeably according to the direction of the light.
The spruce table shows relatively even grain and is complemented by slender, elongated f-holes, neatly executed purfling, and clearly defined edgework and corners.
The scroll is likewise made from attractively figured maple, its golden varnish continuing the visual character established by the back and ribs.
Made in Forte dei Marmi in 1985 and bearing a label explicitly identifying Giuseppe Barberi as a pupil of Piero Badalassi, this violin offers an interesting connection with the Tuscan violin-making tradition of the period.
The instrument is accompanied by a certificate by Alberto Giordano.
