Violin, Pietro Remo Sgavetta, Fidenza(Parma) 1984
Sgavettaについて現在確認できる資料は決して多くありませんが、ParmaのCasa della Musicaが編纂する音楽家・製作家の資料にもその名が収録され、Fidenzaの地域史には、独学で弦楽器製作を身につけた優れた製作家であったことが記録されています。また、1995年にFidenzaで製作されたチェロも現存しており、ヴァイオリンのみならずチェロの製作にも取り組んでいたことが確認できます。
今回ご紹介するヴァイオリンは、1984年にFidenzaで製作された一挺です。
二枚板の裏板には、細かく規則的な杢を持つメイプルが使用され、側板やスクロールにも美しい杢が現れています。透明感のあるゴールデン・オレンジからアンバー系のニスによって木材の表情が明瞭に浮かび上がり、楽器全体に明るく統一感のある外観を与えています。
表板には比較的均整の取れたスプルースが使用され、細身で伸びやかなf字孔、明瞭なエッジワーク、端正に収められたパーフリングを見ることができます。特に裏板の均整の取れた杢と、側板からスクロールに至るまでの材料の美しさは、本作の外観を特徴づける要素のひとつです。
内部のラベルには “Pietro Remo Sgavetta / Fecit in Fidenza (Pr) / Anno 1984” と記され、その下には製作者自身によるものと思われる手書きの記載も確認できます。
本楽器には、Alberto Giordano氏による証明書が付属します。
著名な製作都市だけに限らず、各地域に独自の製作家が存在した20世紀後半のイタリア。その中でFidenzaに工房を構え、独学で製作を続けたPietro Remo Sgavettaの仕事を現在に伝える、興味深い一挺です

Pietro Remo Sgavetta was an Italian violin maker associated with Fidenza in Emilia-Romagna.
Published information concerning Sgavetta remains relatively limited. His name is nevertheless recorded in the musical and instrument-making archives of the Casa della Musica in Parma, while local historical sources from Fidenza describe him as a skilled violin maker who developed his craft largely through self-directed study. A cello made by Sgavetta in Fidenza in 1995 is also documented, confirming that his work extended beyond violins to larger instruments of the violin family.
The violin presented here was made in Fidenza in 1984.
Its two-piece maple back displays fine and remarkably regular figure, complemented by attractively figured maple in the ribs and scroll. A transparent golden-orange to amber varnish allows the character of the wood to remain clearly visible and gives the instrument a particularly coherent appearance.
The spruce table shows relatively even grain, with slender, elongated f-holes, clearly defined edgework and neatly executed purfling. The attractive selection of maple, extending from the back through the ribs and scroll, is among the most visually distinctive features of this particular instrument.
The original label reads “Pietro Remo Sgavetta / Fecit in Fidenza (Pr) / Anno 1984,” together with an additional handwritten inscription beneath.
The violin is accompanied by a certificate by Alberto Giordano.
Working outside Italy's most internationally recognised centres of violin making, Sgavetta represents another aspect of the country's rich regional tradition of twentieth-century instrument making. This 1984 violin offers an interesting example of his work in Fidenza.
