Violin, Virgilio Cremonini, Crevalcore 2001
幼い頃、祖父からヴァイオリンへの興味を受け継ぎ、第二次世界大戦後にはModenaでヴァイオリンを学びました。しかし、家族を支えるため仕事に就く必要があり、一度は楽器から離れることになります。その後、自ら事業を興して成功を収める一方、ヴァイオリンへの情熱を失うことはありませんでした。1980年代初頭、Pieve di Centoで製作家Carlettiと出会ったことを契機に弦楽器製作を学び、本格的にヴァイオリン製作へ取り組むようになります。
今回ご紹介するヴァイオリンは、2001年にCrevalcoreで製作された一挺です。
この2001年はCremoniniの製作活動を知るうえでも興味深い年です。同年に開催された若手ヴァイオリニストのための「Premio nazionale Bruno Zanella」では、Cremonini自身が製作したヴァイオリンが審査員特別賞として授与されたことが公式記録に残されています。
本作には、透明感のある赤褐色からオレンジ・レッドのニスが施され、その下に一枚板のメイプル裏板の美しい杢が広がります。裏板だけでなく側板やスクロールにも印象的な杢を持つ材が使用され、楽器全体に統一感のある外観を与えています。
表板には比較的均整の取れたスプルースが用いられ、伸びやかなf字孔、明瞭なコーナーとエッジワーク、端正に収められたパーフリングなど、随所に丁寧な仕事を見ることができます。
ラベルには製作者自身の名とともに、“fece in Crevalcore Anno 2001” と記されています。
一度はヴァイオリンから離れながらも、長年持ち続けた情熱から再び製作の道へと進んだVirgilio Cremonini。その歩みと、エミリア＝ロマーニャにおける地域の製作文化を現在に伝える興味深い一挺です。

Virgilio Cremonini, born in 1934, was an Italian violin maker associated with Crevalcore in Emilia-Romagna.
His interest in the violin began in childhood, inspired by his grandfather. Following the Second World War, Cremonini studied the violin in Modena, although family responsibilities eventually required him to leave his musical studies and pursue a professional career. After successfully establishing his own business, however, his interest in the violin remained. In the early 1980s, an encounter with the violin maker Carletti in Pieve di Cento led Cremonini to study the craft of violin making and develop his own work as a maker.
The violin presented here was made in Crevalcore in 2001.
The year is particularly interesting in the context of Cremonini's work. At the 2001 edition of the Premio nazionale Bruno Zanella, a competition dedicated to young violinists, a violin made by Virgilio Cremonini was presented as the special jury prize.
This instrument is finished with a transparent reddish-brown to orange-red varnish, revealing the attractive figure of its one-piece maple back. Strongly figured maple can also be seen in the ribs and scroll, giving the instrument a coherent visual character throughout.
The spruce table displays relatively even grain, complemented by elongated f-holes, clearly defined corners and edgework, and neatly executed purfling.
Its label bears the maker's name together with the inscription “fece in Crevalcore Anno 2001.”
Having returned to violin making after many years away from the instrument, Cremonini developed his craft from a longstanding personal passion. This 2001 violin provides an interesting example of his work and of the regional violin-making culture of Emilia-Romagna at the beginning of the twenty-first century.
The violin is accompanied by a certificate by Alberto Giordano of Genoa.
