今回ご紹介するヴァイオリンは、2005年にCastelfranco Emiliaで製作された「IIª Serie」の一挺です。 ラベルには製作地と年、IIª Serieの表記があり、裏板上部のボタンにはRostiのイニシャル「RV」が施されています。同様の表記を持つ2005年製作品は、国際的なアーカイブにも記録されています。
明るい琥珀色からオレンジブラウンへと変化する透明感のあるニスの下には、二枚接ぎの美しい杢を持つメイプルが映え、表板の伸びやかなf字孔、輪郭のはっきりとしたコーナー、端正なパーフリングなど、Rostiの個性を感じさせる仕上がりです。
エミリア＝ロマーニャの製作文化と、長年木と向き合ってきた職人としての経験。その双方が感じられる、20世紀末から21世紀初頭のイタリアン・ヴァイオリン製作を伝える興味深い作品です。

Castelfranco Emilia (Modena), 2005 — IIª Serie
Vittorio Rosti (1937–2015) was an Italian violin maker based in Castelfranco Emilia, in the province of Modena. Having worked with wood from an early age as a woodworker, sculptor and craftsman, he brought many years of practical experience to violin making. During the 1990s, he began pursuing the craft more seriously under the guidance of Giuseppe Goldoni, developing his work within the violin-making tradition of Emilia-Romagna.
Rosti placed particular importance on the selection of materials. He is known to have personally searched for spruce in the Val di Fiemme, an area long renowned for its resonance wood. His instruments reflect both this careful attention to materials and the strong woodworking background that preceded his career as a violin maker.
The violin presented here was made in Castelfranco Emilia in 2005 and bears Rosti's “IIª Serie” label. The label records the place and year of manufacture, while the button on the back is marked with his characteristic “RV” initials. Other 2005 examples bearing the same IIª Serie designation and RV brand are documented in international archives.
A transparent amber to orange-brown varnish reveals the attractive figure of the two-piece maple back. The elongated f-holes, clearly defined corners and neat purfling contribute to an instrument with a distinctive and individual character.
Combining the violin-making tradition of Emilia-Romagna with a lifetime of experience working with wood, this violin represents an interesting example of Italian making at the beginning of the twenty-first century
The violin is accompanied by a certificate by the Genoa-based violin maker and expert Alberto Giordano.
